What's happening at GMS:
Children's House I:
We have studied other countries throughout the school year – now it’s our turn! We will learn about the USA, our flag, geography and great leaders of the past. We will introduce lessons about money (what better way to learn about Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson?) and learn the basic denominations of coins. Valentine’s Day will be observed on Friday, Feb 12th. and don't forget Not Just Desserts; each child has made 2 beautiful Mardi Gras masks for their family. Claim your child’s work when you arrive and be properly decked out for the festivities. See you there!

Children's House II:
We will begin the introduction to physical science by studying the states of matter; solid, liquid and gas. We will also prepare for Presidents Day, February 15th by studying famous Presidents of the United States like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We will end the month by exploring the internal structure of the earth. Students will learn about the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The children will also be busy making Valentine projects for the big day, Friday February 12th.

Elementary:
Not Just Desserts will be on Feb 20th and all students will be decorating a bookcase for the live auction. The Upper Elementary students will attend the Montessori Model United Nations Conference in New York City at the end of the month. Final preparations for the trip include finishing their hand-batiked Ghanaian Unity flag and a backboard with information. They will also finish writing their position papers and continue with core curriculum work including punctuation, grammar and lots of math! The lower elementary students will prepare a special play for the preschool classes. Group lessons for lower elementary students this month include the phases of the moon, the Plant Kingdom and the hydrosphere, lithosphere and atmosphere. Valentine's Day celebrated on Friday Feb. 12th!
